Speaker topic: If it’s Raining and You Have an Umbrella, Use It. Dr Shoma Morita. At times when much of our life can seem out of our control, it is even more vital to take charge of the things –even small things - that we can do something about. Never underestimate the impact on our well-being that small steps can make. And notice how often small steps lead to significant change. One of the guidelines of Living Well with Cancer is to be an active agent in your own treatment. Take an interest and inform yourself. Find out things that you can do. The bottom line is to take some action rather than endure unpleasant circumstances, or unnecessary suffering that can be changed, or alleviated in some way. Personally, I have found this idea practical for all manner of difficulties, as it encourages me to take a proactive stance. And we can create memorable moments at the same time. I look forward to seeing members I know, and meeting newcomers. Everyone is welcome. Trudy has dedicated the last 30 years to the study and practice of Japanese Psychology, and in particular the educational components of Morita Therapy and Living Well with Illness. She focuses on the vison and research of Japanese Physician, Dr. Jinroh Itami, founder of Ikigai Ryoho, (Meaningful Live Therapy) in Japan and have never stopped studying and learning. Trudy started facilitating with Wellspring in 2007. Facilitating at Wellspring is her Ikigai – her purpose– one of her joyful reasons to get up in the morning. Her focus on Dr. Itami’s vision and research, with cancer patients, is unique in Canada. She has been studying, teaching, and practicing with this material for 30 years and during this past 13 years have focused primarily on cancer patients and others dealing with serious and chronic illness. Trudy Boyle considers the principles of Japanese Psychology, Morita, Naikan and Living Well with Illness to be her operating system
